How to find and buy the best indie games
The biggest question people ask about indie games is whether or not they’ll be worth their money.
With so many titles to choose from, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype and forget to compare the games to other offerings.
We asked IGN’s resident indie gaming expert, Ben Bajarin, to do just that for us.
Bajarin is an indie game developer himself, having worked on titles like Uncharted 4, Minecraft: Story Mode, and many others.
With more than 50 years of experience in the video game industry, Bajrin has some advice for those interested in making an indie gaming career.
“There’s a lot of great indie games out there, but it’s really easy to be caught up with the hype, because there are so many indie games that are simply too good for a game to be worth its money,” he says.
“It’s important to remember that the best games are made by the best people, and there are plenty of games that you could be doing for yourself and not have to worry about whether or how you can make the money.”
It’s great to be able to see that these games can be really great, but if you just look at the overall quality of the games, you might be surprised that some are even better than they sound.
“For example, if you look at Minecraft, I think most people who bought Minecraft: Stories for the first time thought it was a really good game.
But that’s because the developers did a great job of writing an interesting story.
They were able to tell a great story, and make the player feel something, even if it was the main character’s death.”
To help you understand why some of these games are so good, Baprin offers some advice to those who are trying to make a career in the industry.
“The main reason people are attracted to making a living in the gaming industry is the opportunity to make money, but the downside is that you have to sacrifice some of the quality of your work in order to make it.”
This is especially true of indie games, where there are a lot more opportunities for mistakes, because the game developers aren’t afraid to make mistakes.
“Some games, especially the ones that are popular right now, may not be perfect, but they will definitely be much better than the next-best alternative.”
For Bajran, it can be a challenge to decide what to make as an indie gamer, but he says it’s worth the effort.
“I’ve always been a gamer, and I’ve always loved making games.
It’s fun, and it’s a good way to make your own living.
But I’m not a game developer, so I’m a gamer and not a designer, so if you make a good game and you sell it well, you can be successful,” he said.
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”
