China’s new state TV has no airtime at all

Key points:The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is set to launch a new news channel for its online audience on FridayIt will be the first time the Australian Broadcasting Corp (ABC), a state broadcaster, will be able to offer its own content, and it will be in addition to the Australian news channels it already has, such as Channel Ten and the Australian Financial Review (AFP).
The ABC’s news website, iQiyi, will become its own digital channel on Friday, with content produced in-house, ABC News Australia’s own news site, the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ website and other news outlets will be hosted by the ABC.
“It’s the first step in a long, hard journey for the ABC,” said iQishis CEO and chief executive Mark Schilling.
“The network is still very much a state entity, so we’re not looking at anything less than the best news and information available, and we’re going to offer our own content.”
The new ABC News 24 is expected to be more robust in content, with stories and analyses from local reporters and correspondents.
The news website will have content sourced from state-owned media and independent news outlets, such the ABC’s website and the Bureau of Meteorology’s website, and news from independent sources, such Asahi Shimbun’s website.
It will also have news from news channels that are not state-run.
“We are going to have our own editorial content, but it will still be from local sources, which is very important,” Mr Schilling said.
The ABC News website is currently owned by News Corp, a holding company owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp that is also owned by the US conglomerate, News Corp.
The new website will be available on a range of mobile devices and the iQizi app will also be available, according to the ABC News Channel.
“The new site will be much more robust than the current site, and its content will be from a range the ABC is not able to reach,” Mr Sillys said.ABC News Australia, the ABCs digital news service, has more than 250,000 daily unique visitors, according the organisation’s website (as of August).
Mr Schilling expects that the new site, which will be an independent venture, will feature stories and analysis from a wide range of news sources.
“This will be very much an independent news website,” he said.
The ABC said the new ABC website will “provide a more diverse and informative news site that will be more comprehensive in its coverage of issues such as global climate change and climate change impacts”.ABC News is the largest independent news organisation in Australia and the most popular Australian source of news.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is also set to make its first appearance on the ABC news channel.
Mr Schill said the ABC was also set on a journey of building an audience for the new digital platform.
“I think we’re heading in the right direction,” he added.
“With this platform we will be a much more valuable resource to our viewers and we will give them more content, more choice in what they can see.”
The ABC has been trying to develop a new digital channel since last year when it launched the new national ABC news website.
“In 2018, we built a very large news platform and we have a very strong audience,” Mr Shilling said, adding that the ABC planned to grow its audience by 30 per cent over the next three years.
“As a digital company, we can’t grow as fast as a news company, but we do have a lot of great talent on the ground and we’ll be looking for great talent to help us.”
